New Zealand currently bases novelty upon an arcane "prior claiming" system. They are, however, moving towards a 'whole of contents novelty' approach similar to that in the U.S., where prior art includes any material available to the public anywhere in the world before the priority date, and further includes unpublished New Zealand patent applications.
